Two teens charged in North Aurora car burglary

NORTH AURORA – Two 14-year-old boys from Joliet are charged in a North Aurora car burglary.

About 9:18 a.m. Wednesday, North Aurora police officers were informed of a vehicle burglary, according to a news release from the North Aurora Police Department.

The burglary occurred in the 100 block of Overland Drive. The victim chased two suspects to the area of Route 31 and Airport Road when he lost them, the release stated.

An officer met the victim in the police station lobby to gather suspect descriptions and information. Other officers responded to the area to search for the suspects.

About 9:27 a.m., an officer spotted two people who matched the suspect descriptions in a field underneath the ComEd power lines west of Route 31 and south of John Street, the release stated.

After seeing the officer, they fled through a tree line, police said.

Additional officers responded, and a perimeter was established. The first suspect was taken into custody at 9:34 a.m. near Kingswood Drive and Cherrytree Court, police said.

The second suspect was taken into custody at 9:35 a.m. in a field behind 150 S. Lincolnway.

A preliminary investigation has determined the suspects entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle while it was parked in a lot in the 100 block of Overland Drive and stole a cellphone, keys and loose change.

The suspects each were charged with one count of burglary, a Class 2 felony, and one count of resisting an officer, a Class A misdemeanor.
