Knights still holding court

Text Size: AaAaAaAaAa

One 9-0 regular season is superb.

Two straight 9-0 seasons (see Batavia) is sensational.

How about three straight 9-0 regular seasons? Sly's speechless on that one, so all he can do is doff his cap to the Kaneland Knights after they nipped Morris on Friday to turn the trick yet again.

If Kaneland wasn't a bit isolated out in western Kane County, this program would be the buzz of the state by now, and the Knights can force the issue a little moreso if they can cap this year's regular season perfection with a trip to Champaign.

One week at a time, of course, but how can the Knights' goals be any less with a team this good and two straight trips to the state semis in their rearview mirror?

Further congrats are in order to Batavia. There wasn't any doubt the Bullogs were going to beat Elgin to win the UEC River outright, but now the deed is done, and what a two-year run it's been under coach Dennis Piron.

Fighting Saints are now playoff-bound, for sure. Nice work by the East D to leave no doubt against Larkin.

As pretty of a number as 9-0 is, 4-5 is so very ugly. Finishing one W shy of postseason paydirt is a hollow feeling, and unfortunately we have too much of that around here this year: St. Charles North, Geneva, Marmion, Wheaton Academy.

At least the Vikes went out in style, winning in double OT, and Marmion also closed the year strong.

Shame North couldn't get it done in Week 9, but it was a loss that kinda summed up the Stars' season: Really solid defense, not enough offensive production.
