Marmion football closes
out with big win

AURORA – The Marmion football team continued its late-season surge all the way to the finish, walloping Walther Lutheran on Friday, 49-6.

The Cadets, who closed the season on a three-game winning streak, finish the year with a 4-5 record.

Marmion took the opening possession and ran the ball right down the throat of the Walther Lutheran defense. It led to a 20-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Charlie Faunce to Jake Ruddy.

Josh Meyers recovered a fumble toward the end of the first quarter, setting up a long touchdown run by Jordan Glasgow.

Ruddy (90 rushing yards) and Glasgow (85) paced the offense for the Cadets.

“Jordan runs very physical, he makes people miss and he has great hands,” Marmion coach Dan Thorpe said.

A pair of players whose seasons were marred by injuries got to make contributions for Marmion.

Nick Ferraro had an opportunity to play both ways in the second half, toting a few carries for 41 yards and finishing the game with a sack and a tackle for loss – a major boost of confidence for the junior who spent the year on scout team and the injured reserve.

Senior linebacker Matt Lally also returned to action and registered a late sack.

Two Marmion linemen plunged in for William "The Refrigerator" Perry-like touchdowns to make one last final memory for themselves at Fichtel Field. One of those lineman, Patrick Bakala, was happy to finish the season the way the Cadets did.

“Finishing off the season the last three weeks was really great for us," he said. "There was still a lot of emotion going around. It was just a great way to end the season."
