Batavia may eliminate code regulating taxis
BATAVIA – City officials don’t want to be in the business of regulating taxicabs.
The Batavia City Council’s Government Services Committee on Monday recommended deleting an ordinance from the city code regarding the regulation of taxicabs. The full City Council is set to vote on the recommendation at its meeting Monday.
City Administrator Bill McGrath told aldermen the rules, which date to 1972, aren’t needed. The rules dictate such things as requiring each cab to be in good working and sanitary condition, along with operation regulations.
