KCChronicle.com/preps Athlete of the Week: Geneva tennis's Kirby Einck

Why she was selected: Einck was the top local singles finisher at the IHSA state tournament over the weekend, advancing to a sixth-round consolation match.

Geneva sophomore Kirby Einck finished 4-2 at the IHSA girls tennis state tournament this past weekend, playing through wind and rain all the way through to her final match in the sixth round of the consolation bracket. Einck, the St. Charles Bank & Trust-Kane County Chronicle Athlete of the Week, touched base with Chronicle sports reporter Kevin Druley about her experience. The following is an edited transcript:

What do you take away from state, all things considered?
The fact that the conditions were hard with the wind and the rain and the fact that I still could prevail and win meant that my hard work paid off and I stayed persistent.
