The trio of friends that aimed to supply emergency response teams with teddy bears delivered on their promise Saturday.

The Social Butterflies – a trio of friends that emerged from a Girl Scout troop of kids with special needs – collected 204 teddy bears through Project Bear, said Phillis Nowicki, mother of one of the members.

This partnership with Kay Jewelers in the Geneva Commons also raised money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Nowicki said the teddy bears, which are meant to comfort children in need, were distributed to TriCity Family Services, Delnor Hospital, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, Fox River and Countryside Fire/Rescue District, the Illinois State Police in Elgin and a South Elgin fire station.

Nowicki thanked the community for its support and said the group likely will do the project next year.
