Me, the person
Once again, during the presidential debate, the incumbent demonstrated his true political thinking – blame, divisive, class warfare, self-centered. How many times during the debate was the answer, "Me." For whatever reason, it appears that Mr. Obama has great difficulty understanding and articulating the American principle of we, the people, and not me, the person.
Who would vote for Romney?
I question the intelligence of any woman who votes for Romney.
No more Obama
Due to layoffs and pay cuts for my family and a lack of job opportunities for my college graduate son, my family is much worse off than we were four years ago. Voters, please do not give Barack Obama another four years in which to ruin this country.
Voting for Obama
I was born and raised here in Kane County, and though I am against the majority, I am a Democrat. I think the president has done a wonderful job. He came into a huge mess. If you don't believe me, watch the movie "Fahrenheit 9/11." He had a huge mess to clean up. I'm voting for him. I was so mad at reading in the [endorsement for Mitt Romney], that the Chronicle is Republican and all. I was going to cancel my subscription, but my boyfriend talked me out of it. I think President Obama has done a wonderful job. I know you won't print this.
Stay in Hollywood
I have always held the position of president of the United States of America in the highest regard. I find it degrading, arrogant and a misuse of TV air time for Obama to visit "The View," and David Letterman and Jay Leno. It is so unpresidential. Why doesn't he just stay out in Hollywood?
It's pathetic
Score another one for downtown Batavia. We have the Zombie Walk. We have a pub crawl. We're spending millions of dollars, and that's the best we can do to draw people downtown? That's pathetic.
Want them in color
I'm calling about the printing of Sandy Bressner's "In Focus" pictures each week. The photographs are lovely, but I wonder why you don't print them in color.
What's going to happen?
I am on permanent disability, and I have been told by my doctors that I can never return to work. So what's going to happen if the Republicans take over again? I go to work, and I die?
Spread the word
The person who called in about the mom who is a senior citizen, living in St. Charles and was bullied by a neighbor who is a teacher – what I would do, if you can't put the person's name in the paper, just spread the word. It's appalling that a teacher does that to a senior citizen. If that teacher does it to a senior citizen, what does that teacher do to the kids in class?
Oil companies and Obama
All of a sudden, gasoline prices are going down. Could this be a ploy by oil companies to get naive voters to vote for Obama, thinking the president caused the drop in prices? The oil companies know that President Obama will do nothing to reduce gasoline prices, and therefore after the election, oil companies will raise the prices higher again. Very, very clever.
Not such an easy job
I read where someone said that teachers have more than 65 paid days off. That is completely false. I worked in the Central Administration Office in District 303 until I retired. Every day, I worked with teacher salaries. Teachers do not get paid vacations. They only get paid for the number of days the students are in school, plus the normal paid holidays during the school year. Their salary for the school term of approximately 9 1/2 months is divided over 12 months. Because they receive checks for 12 months, people falsely believe they are paid for 12 months. If you think teaching is such an easy job, why didn't you go to college, get your teaching degree and enjoy this wonderful job?
What's the deal?
The Batavia City Council has once again wasted taxpayer money with the streetscape program. They are using $3.5 million from the TIF funds, which could be better used to support the schools, park districts, libraries and even the city government. River Street has been closed all summer, and I'm surprised that any business has survived. Now the city is giving these businesses a tax refund by waiving the utility bills, which should have been considered before the project even started. The City Council may want to make River Street pedestrian and bike friendly, but how many of these pedestrians and bike riders purchase anything in downtown Batavia that increase sales tax? Why are the bricks being paved on River Street, when the Donovan Bridge brick pavers had to be replaced this summer, with only pedestrian traffic. Walgreens wants TIF funds? Where are these coming from?
The world's worst dancers
In the Value City commercials, how do they get the world's worst dancers? Even the people who should be good dancers are bad dancers on there.
