Face Time with Kate Wiltse

Maple Park resident Kate Wiltse, 40, was working at Wiltse’s Farm Produce and Greenhouse in Maple Park when she answered 10 questions for the Kane County Chronicle’s Al Lagattolla.

Where did you grow up? Maple Park

Do you have any pets? Chickens, donkeys, goats, ducks and peacocks

Who would play you in the movie of your life? I have a customer who always tells me I look like Meg Ryan, so I guess her.

What was your first job? I’ve always worked on the farm, but outside the farm it was Pete’s
Hot Dogs.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I thought about being a nurse, but I always wanted to be on the farm.

Do you have any favorite charities? Maple Park Family Fund and the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry

Do you have any hobbies? I try to work out. I go to the Y. This year, I really got into canning and freezing.

What is your favorite local restaurant? I would say Bootlegger’s.

How long has the farm been in the family? My mom’s been here since 1965, but our family goes
back four generations. My mom’s family came from Batavia, where Fermilab is, and they had a farm on Wilson Street.

What is an interesting factoid about yourself? I’m just a down-to-earth person.
