November declared month for veterans

AURORA – November has been proclaimed Veterans Recognition month by the Fox Valley Park District. The park district will honor vets this month by offering free admission to its fitness centers and luncheon.

Throughout November, veterans will be admitted to the park district’s fitness facility an unlimited number of times for no charge. Free admittance for veterans and their families (spouses and children) is offered at the Eola Community Center, 555 S. Eola Road, Prisco Community Center, 150 W. Illinois Ave., and Vaughan Athletic Center, 2121 W. Indian Trail.

The park district is also hosting a Veterans Day Luncheon from noon to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Prisco Community Center. Veterans who are interested in attending the luncheon for free must register by Nov. 5.
In a press release, Director of Recreation and Communications Laurie Hoffman said, “We urge our residents to express gratitude to and recognize the sacrifice and valor of our active and former service men and women.”

The offers apply to all veterans and active military, and their immediate dependents. Members of the National Guard and Reserves also apply.

Participants will need to show a valid military ID card to take advantage of the park district’s offerings.
