Batavia City Council votes to freeze pay for aldermen, mayor
BATAVIA – The Batavia City Council on Monday voted to keep aldermen’s pay at $200 a City Council meeting and to freeze the mayor’s salary.
Aldermen voted, 11-3, for the freeze, to keep the treasurer’s salary at $600 annually, and to increase the city clerk’s compensation by 10 percent annually for the next four years, beginning in May.
Fourth Ward Alderman Jim Volk voted “no.” Although he agreed the city clerk needed a raise, Volk said he still supported a proposal to cut aldermen’s pay.
