Police get answers in ‘suspicious incident’

MAPLE PARK – Kane County Sheriff’s Office officials said Tuesday that a suspicious incident reported last week near Maple Park was the result of a couple that had stopped after seeing a young boy in a ditch near the 44W400 block of Beith Road.

Sheriff’s Lt. Pat Gengler said the couple came forward soon after the incident received news coverage. Police had said they were investigating an incident that happened about 5 p.m. Oct. 30, in which a suspicious vehicle was reported to have pulled into the driveway of a home where an 8-year-old boy was outside.

Gengler said he would urge people in such a situation to call 911 to alert police before stopping to talk to youths. In the recent incident, the 8-year-old boy said that the driver had asked whether he wanted a ride, but Gengler said the couple had said the boy had not been offered a ride.

The boy was not determined to be in danger.

“A lot of people are still apprehensive about calling 911 about something that isn’t a true emergency,” Gengler said, adding police would rather be called in such a situation.

“If there’s a boy laying in a ditch, we tend to get out to those things fairly quickly,” he said.
