Election

Two aldermen in Batavia choose not to seek re-election

BATAVIA – Batavia 2nd Ward Alderman Victor Dietz and 3rd Ward Alderwoman Janet Jungels announced they will not run for re-election next year.

They announced their intentions during Monday’s Batavia City Council meeting. Dietz said he will not run for another term because he started a new job that requires extensive travel.

Dietz first was elected to the City Council in 2005. Jungels was appointed to the City Council in 2010 after the death of 3rd Ward Alderwoman Linnea Miller. She then was elected in 2011 to fill the remaining two years of her term.

Batavia Mayor Jeff Schielke has not announced yet whether he will run for re-election. Candidates for the April election started circulating nominating petitions Sept. 25. Petitions need to be filed by Dec. 24.
