Kane County Recorder Sandy Wegman pushed back a challenge from Elgin Democrat Brenda Rodgers to win another term.

With 243 of 291 precincts counted in Kane County and the Aurora Election Commission as of press time, Wegman received 82,002 votes and Rodgers received 59,602 votes.

Wegman, an Elgin Republican, was first elected to the office in 2000. Rodgers is an Elgin Democrat and realtor, and served on the Elgin City Council from 2003 to 2007.

The Kane County Recorder’s Office receives original property instruments, such as deeds and mortgages, and is responsible for recording those documents in the county’s permanent archive of land titles and ownership records.

Wegman counts among her accomplishments her efforts to streamline the office.

“The head count has been reduced from 33 to 19 and consolidation of services has allowed us to give back the second floor of Building C to the county for the relocation of 911 and the Office of Emergency Management, saving the taxpayers millions of dollars,” she said in a campaign questionnaire.
