CAMPTON HILLS – Police last week arrested a 15-year-old Campton Hills boy they say is responsible for more than 20 car burglaries after he was seen entering a vehicle near Route 64, Campton Hills Police Department Chief Dan Hoffman said.

A drive-up employee of Old Second National Bank, 40W422 Route 64, called police Oct. 31 after seeing someone on a skateboard enter the car, Hoffman said. He noted nothing was taken.

Police caught up to the teen on a nature trail, Hoffman said. After subsequent interviews, Hoffman said, police determined the boy was involved in more than 20 vehicle burglaries.

The burglaries happened at different dates and times, with most occurring in the Fox Mill subdivision, Hoffman said.

Police recovered multiple items from the boy’s home, Hoffman said. He said cash and easily pawned items were among the stolen goods.

Even though the village has a low crime rate, Hoffman said, residents need to be cautious about presenting opportunities for crimes.

“It’s all about crime prevention,” he said. “All these vehicles were unlocked.”

The teen has been released to his parents and will be charged in juvenile court, Hoffman said.
