Kenyon holds off Barconi to hold on to county board seat

Two-term County Board member Michael Kenyon retained his seat for a third term Tuesday against Democratic challenger Jennifer Barconi, according to unofficial results in the race for Kane County's 16th District.

Kenyon had 3,664 votes to Barconi's 3,282, according to the Kane County Clerk results online.

Kenyon said he was disappointed the race appeared so close.

"I'm not surprised, but I thought I'd have a 20 percent lead," Kenyon said. "She's a good campaigner. She put signs up all over the place. One of my friends said she went to his house three times because he said he was going to vote for me."

Kenyon, of South Elgin, said he would seek to improve infrastructure in the district, which includes parts of the South Elgin area. His top priorities were to bring jobs to the county, finding the funding to update the antiquated computer system for court services and continuing the policies that have brought the county a high credit rating.

Barconi did not return voicemail messages seeking comment.
