Melisa Taylor breezes to county board victory

SUGAR GROVE – A County Board member who distinguished herself in her first few years on the board by pushing reform in Kane County's Animal Control Department has secured re-election.

Tuesday, incumbent Kane County Board member Melisa Taylor, R-Sugar Grove, cruised to an easy win against her opponent, Democratic candidate Norman Martin.

With one precinct remaining as of 10 p.m. Tuesday, Taylor unofficially held 67 percent of the vote in the district, which includes Sugar Grove and portions of Aurora.

Taylor had amassed 5,815 votes to Martin's 2,880.

Taylor said she was "thrilled" with the support she received from voters in her district.

She said she was looking forward to continuing the work she began during her first term, to which she was elected in 2010, edging then-incumbent Republican board member Bill Wyatt.

During that term, she and others on the board led the way to shrink the budget of the animal control department, which she said was fraught with inefficiency.

"I knew I had the energy to get things done, and now I'm ready to roll my sleeves up and really get to work," Taylor said.
