Paul Ruby Foundation funds two studies on Parkinson’s

GENEVA  –The Paul Ruby Foundation was able to fund two proposals this year at Northwestern University’s Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center.

The foundation raised $100,000 from its sixth annual Concert for a Cure and Sub 5 Century Challenge. The foundation considered several grant proposals in October, ultimately choosing to fund $20,000 for Dr. Jerilyn Logemann’s research on the development and validation of a screening process for swallowing disorders in Parkinson’s patients.

The foundation also funded $80,000 for Dr. Rajeshar Awatramani’s research on assessing the function of a dopamine neuron subtype that is vulnerable in Parkinson’s disease.
