Jass Chevrolet in midst of upgrades

ELBURN – Western Kane County’s local Chevy dealer soon will operate from new and improved digs.

Representatives of Bob Jass Chevrolet said work is continuing on renovations that will transform the dealership on Route 47 in Elburn.

“This is a huge undertaking,” said Ryan Easter, general manager at Bob Jass Chevrolet. “We can’t wait to open it up.”

About two months ago, crews hired by the dealership began work on the renovation project. The entire interior of the facility has been gutted, save for the dealership’s service area, which has operated during the construction.

Sales and auto finance staff are working out of a temporary construction trailer in front of the dealership along Route 47, Easter said.

The work, which Easter estimated to be worth more than $1 million, is financed by the dealership. When completed, the renovations will bring the dealership into line with General Motors dealership facility guidelines, Easter said.

“GM has asked its dealers – strongly – to go through these facility upgrades,” Easter said.

The dealership will feature a new expanded showroom, a larger service area with seven additional bays, and an improved waiting area, featuring more seating, a play area for children and Wi-Fi-enabled workstations for adults waiting for work on their vehicles to be completed.

Easter said almost all work is performed by local contractors, many of whom purchase vehicles from Jass.

Easter said the work also is the result of years of steady sales growth because the Jass dealership has grabbed a consistently larger share of the Kane County GM auto sales market.

“We’re getting more people all the time from the Fox River and west, who are realizing Elburn may be, in some cases, a faster drive than going to the DuPage County line,” Easter said.

“So if we can give them a nice place, to sit and relax and enjoy the process, it’s going to seem even less of a drive.”

Easter said the showroom and sales offices should open in early December. The full project will be completed in March.
