SUGAR GROVE – Two employees of a local pizza restaurant were forced to fight off an irate man who entered the restaurant and attacked a restaurant employee following a disagreement over whether someone else was entitled to a free pizza, according to Sugar Grove Police reports.

Employees at Rosati's Pizza in the 100 block of North Route 47 in Sugar Grove said the incident began on Nov. 5, when the restaurant received a telephone call from a woman who claimed to have a receipt that entitled her to receive a free pizza, according to police reports.

The employee answering the phone, a man, 59, of Glendale Heights, checked the restaurant's computer records, and found no such notation, and declined to give the caller any free food. About five minutes later, an unidentified white male wearing a black shirt entered the restaurant and demanded to know why the restaurant would not give the woman a free pizza, reports said.

The man then jumped onto the counter and grabbed the restaurant employee's shirt, and punched him in the face, police said. The employee escaped the man's grasp and attempted to get to a phone to call 911. The man pursued him, however, prevented him placing the call and knocked him to the floor, police said.

At that point, another restaurant employee, a man, 23, of St. Charles, rushed to the front of the restaurant and separated the two men, police said. That employee then fought with the attacker, until he was able to push him out the front door. The attacker then drove away in a white full-size Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, the police report said.

Police were then called to the scene, and the employees filed their complaints. The matter remains under investigation, police said, and no arrests have yet been made.
