Prep roundup: St. Charles East bowls over Geneva

ST. CHARLES – St. Charles East boys bowling co-captains Alex Garza (663 series) and Nick Binetti (624) sparked the Saints to an Upstate Eight Conference River Division victory against Geneva at St. Charles Bowl on Tuesday.

The Saints defeated the host Vikings, 2,982-2,855 while capturing four of five points from the dual. One point is awarded for each game victory, and two are awarded for winning the series.

"We were really eager to start the conference year," Saints coach Steve Dessauer said. "It was a well-fought match between us and Geneva. Geneva looks really good and really deep, and we're looking for a strong year, definitely, too."

Matt Lindberg (647) and Matt Bowman (598) led Geneva.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Somonauk Tournament:
Aurora Central Catholic improved to 2-0 with a 43-35 victory against Hinckley-Big Rock.

Alex DeCreane paced the Chargers with 23 points, including 5 for 7 three-point shooting.

"Alex was hot," ACC coach Mark Fitzgerald said, "so that really helped us."

Alex Horton added nine points for ACC.

In other tournament play, Wheaton Academy defeated the host Bobcats, 41-37, behind Charrissa Robinson's 12 points.

Ali Grant and St. Charles resident Abby Olson chipped in eight points apiece for the 1-1 Warriors.

ACS/IMSA Hoop Happenings: Aurora Christian 50, Indian Creek 43: At Aurora, Alyssa Andersen's 25 points, five rebounds and five steals keyed the Eagles' victory.

Alex Hultine chipped in nine points for ACS.
