West Aurora athletic director Jason Buckley said more should be known soon regarding the school's interest in joining the Upstate Eight Conference. West Aurora is one of multiple schools that expressed interest in UEC membership once Lake Park announced it is departing after this school year for the DuPage Valley Conference.
West Aurora is currently the westernmost DVC member.
"It's nothing necessarily on the DVC end," Buckley said Tuesday. "We're just trying to put our student-athletes in position to have the best possible experience they can in high school."
Buckley said the UEC board of control was expected to meet again Wednesday, after which West Aurora and the other interested schools – including West Chicago – should learn more. Even if West Aurora is offered a spot in the UEC, West Aurora's school board would still need to consider the change.
"If the board doesn't say this is a go, then it's not a go – it's not going to happen," Buckley said. "We want to [provide] the school board all the information they need to make a decision because ultimately it is their decision."
Although there is technically only one vacancy in the UEC, on the Valley Division side, other possibilities could be on the table, including adding multiple schools to grow the conference.
