North Aurora police identify suspect in murder-suicide

BATAVIA – North Aurora police Wednesday released the name of a 58-year-old man who was the suspect in an Oct. 29 murder-suicide at the Eden Supportive Living complex at 311 S.
Lincolnway.

Police said Jon S. Neel stabbed Tomi Vandiver, 50, to death. The department’s investigation into the murder-suicide is now closed, North Aurora police Deputy Chief Scott Buziecki said.

About 8:51 p.m. Oct. 29, North Aurora police officers were dispatched to the apartment building for a suicidal subject – Neel – who was threatening to jump from a third-floor window. Officers arrived at Neel’s apartment just as he jumped out of his window. He died the next day.
