BATAVIA – North Aurora police Wednesday released the name of a 58-year-old man who was the suspect in an Oct. 29 murder-suicide at the Eden Supportive Living complex at 311 S. Lincolnway.

Police said Jon S. Neel stabbed Tomi Vandiver, 50, to death. The department’s investigation into the murder-suicide is now closed, North Aurora police Deputy Chief Scott Buziecki said.

About 8:51 p.m. Oct. 29, North Aurora police officers were dispatched to the apartment building for a suicidal subject – Neel – who was threatening to jump from a third-floor window. Officers arrived at Neel’s apartment just as he jumped out of his window. He died the next day.

Police found Vandiver’s body in Neel’s apartment. She was pronounced dead on the scene. Vandiver also lived in the building.

According to the department’s investigation, Vandiver had a romantic relationship with Neel and went to his apartment to gather some of her things earlier in the evening before she was to meet another man who also lived in the building. She never showed up to meet the other man, Buziecki said.

Eden’s website describes the complex as assisted-living housing for individuals ages 22 to 64 with physical disabilities.
