Letter: A heartfelt thanks

Published: Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 5:30 a.m. CDT

To the Editor:

We wish to express deep appreciation – first to Dr. Christopher George, oncolgist, and then to our local hospice group.

Dr. George has been Paul Heisten's rock for 10 years. He and his wonderful staff provided all that was needed in effective care and uplifting support on an ongoing basis.

Paul surprised everyone by his exceptional longevity while he was a stage four cancer patient. We think that was due, in part, to the concern he felt from the folks in the medical field, many of whom have sent thoughtful cards and notes after his passing.

Hospice had been called to Paul's home during his last days. When they came in with all the equipment needed and provided their experience and advice, they immediately lightened the load of the family. Best of all, the "angels" of hospice are available by phone 24/7. What a comfort!

Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who had a part in supporting Paul and us as well.
