Best case for UEC: Everyone says yes, and everyone stays

The Upstate Eight Conference invited three teams to join the conference over the next two years: West Chicago, West Aurora and Glenbard East.

Sly's hoping to hear yes, yes and yes in the coming weeks.

And then, hoping to hear "no" and "no" from Neuqua Valley and Waubonsie Valley if, as some suspect, the DVC aims to add them to bump its conference back to capacity.

It's not yet certain how the DVC would react if West Aurora and Glenbard East vamoose, but it seems all-too-predictable that the conference would fix its eyes on a couple of the UEC Valley's Valley schools which, admittedly, would be a pretty strong fit.

Neuqua and Waubonsie could hang with the big dogs in that conference in most sports, and the allure of the DVC might be too strong to resist, even if it meant separating from the other Valley, baby sister Metea.

But if the DVC looked elsewhere for new members or for whatever reason Waubonsie and Neuqua decided they want to stay put, that potential 16-team UEC would be one heckuva conference.

You could have the current River schools, plus West Chicago, on one side, and the current Valley schools, plus West Aurora and Glenbard East on the other. It would work out pretty darn well, competitively and geographically.

But even if it's foregone conclusion that a couple of the current UEC members would basically trade places with West Aurora and Glenbard East, it'd still be really cool to have West Aurora back in the Upstate Eight, and a welcome change of scenery for West, as well.

Now that Aurora Central Catholic made the football playoffs, it's time for West to break its drought, and getting the heck out of the DVC might be the only way to make that happen before Sly's a gray-haired ole fox.
