Prep roundup: Aurora Central Catholic girls hoops claim 2nd OT victory

SOMONAUK – The Aurora Central Catholic girls basketball team secured its second overtime win of the young season, defeating Plano, 48-46, on Friday in the Somonauk Tournament.

Lisa Rodriguez and Alex DeCraene scored 17 points each for ACC (3-1).

“Lisa Rodriguez and Alex DeCraene were truly captains tonight, hitting threes, taking it to the hole and playing great defense,” ACC coach Mark Fitzgerald said.

Fitzgerald also praised sophomores Natalie Droeske and Alex Horton for limiting 6-foot-3 Plano center Clarissa Martinez to six points.

The Chargers, who trailed by 10 points during the second quarter, had a chance to win it in regulation, but a driving attempt by Rodriguez bounced off the rim. The Chargers made a pair of defensive stands at the end of overtime to preserve the victory.

York Tournament: Host York defeated St. Charles North, 73-65, in a high-scoring matchup.

The North Stars (0-3) were led by freshman Morgan Rosencrants (25 points) and senior Alex Silverman (20).

“We just needed more defensive stops,” North coach Colleen Backer said.

Burlington Central Thanksgiving Tournament: Central opened its season with a first-round drubbing of Larkin, 64-22, in the Rockets’ tournament.

Shelby Holt (17 points), Rebecca Gerke (11) and Kayla Ross (10) were in double figures for the Rockets.
