Christmas on the Fox headed to fairgrounds

ST. CHARLES – Robin Reed doesn’t view her event this weekend, Christmas on the Fox Art and Craft Show, as just another place for shoppers.

She said her main reason for organizing the show is to help other crafters by giving them a venue to sell their creations. For example, she said her daughter, a mother who works part time, will have a booth at the show to make extra money.

Reed encourages shoppers to support the crafters, most of whom live in or near northern Illinois.

“There’s a part of that person’s personality in what they’ve made,” she said.

Produced by Art of the Heartland Inc., of which Reed is the owner and founder, the juried show will feature about 85 crafters selling such items as ceramics, jewelry, figurines, holiday decor, toys, doll clothes, furniture, quilts, candles, topiaries and books. Heinz Brothers Greenhouse and Garden Center will offer seasonal greenery.

The show will be held at the Prairie Events Center at the Kane County Fairgrounds. Organizers plan to create a holiday ambiance by bringing in live Christmas trees and other decor and by playing Christmas music, Reed said.

A catered lunch will be available.

Christmas on the Fox will be St. Charles resident Carla Weeks’ second show as a vendor. Weeks, who teaches family and consumer sciences at the Geneva middle schools, will sell candy holiday decorations such as wreaths, garlands and trees.

Her mother, who is in her 80s, gave her the idea, she said.

Her mother made the wreaths when Weeks was a kid and began making them again when her doctor wanted her to work with her hands, Weeks said. She decided to pursue and expand upon the craft after the wreaths generated several comments from strangers when her sister went to the post office to mail them.

“This is my hobby,” Weeks said. “I enjoy doing it. It helps me relax.”

New this year, Christmas on the Fox will offer two holiday clinics:

• It’s A Wrap – Tips on creating memorable packages. The 20-minute workshops are set for 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

• It’s a Set Up – Strategies for creating holiday tables. Set for noon Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

• Aurora author Andrea Jones is also scheduled to read from and sign hardcover copies of two books in her Hook & Jill Saga – romantic adult interpretations of J.M. Barrie’s classic “Peter and Wendy” – at 2 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday.

Space is limited. Call 815-772-3279 or email for reservations.
