Face Time with Rudy Arena

Lake Zurich resident Rudy Arena, 48, was at the St. Charles Chicago Pet Show when he answered nine questions for the Kane County Chronicle’s Brenda Schory.

Where did you grow up? Arlington Heights

Pets? I live with my roommate’s two cats, Shalimar and Sofia, and I have a collie named Elvis.

Who would play you in the movie of your life? Humphrey Bogart

First job? Selling rocks door to door. I was like 5 years old. I dug up rocks and sold them for a penny. The nicer, shinier ones were three pennies.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a professional football player. And, no, I did not become that. I sell insurance, which I love.

A book you’d recommend? “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey

Favorite charity? I am a student at the School of Metaphysics, which is in Palatine and Bolingbrook. And they aid individuals to be whole functioning selves. They teach universal laws and truths, they teach meditation and dream interpretation, and teach people to develop essential life skills.

Hobbies? I am a drummer in a band, and I exercise.

What is an interesting factoid about yourself? I have met many rock stars, including Roger Daltrey, Elvis Costello and Bruce Springsteen. I found if you were assertive and were polite to people, they always took a moment to speak with me.
