Published: Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012 5:30 a.m. CDT

ST. CHARLES – Several streets and parking spaces will be temporarily closed to motorists Saturday for the 2012 St. Charles Holiday Homecoming Parade.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m., the parade will be on Main Street between Sixth Street and Fourth Avenue.

Traffic on Main and Second streets will be detoured beginning at 5:15 p.m. A parking ban will be in effect on the detour route and Main Street from 3 to 7 p.m.

A parking ban will be enforced for these parade staging areas:

• Walnut Street between Third and Seventh streets

• Fourth Street between Illinois and Main streets

• Fifth Street between Walnut and Illinois streets

• Sixth Streets from Cedar to Illinois streets

The police department urges the public to exercise extra caution when driving or attending the parade, as it is after dark. Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes because traffic delays could be lengthy.

Additional police and emergency management personnel will be working to ensure public safety.
