BATAVIA – Pep Boys this week moved another step closer to opening an auto repair shop at the southwest corner of Fabyan Parkway and Randall Road.

Batavia aldermen Monday approved a conditional-use permit for Pep Boys, which plans to build an auto repair shop on about 2.5 acres near the Walmart store.

According to the Pep Boys website, it has more than 700 auto parts stores across the U.S.

Seventh Ward Alderman Dave Brown said he was pleased to see the national chain opening a repair shop in Batavia.

Work is set to start in the spring, he said.

“It brings some new employment to town, along with sales tax and property tax,” Brown said.

Batavia plan commissioners now will review design plans for the auto repair shop. The plans will go to aldermen for approval.

That corner will see plenty of construction in the coming months.

Work already has started on the expansion of Walmart at Fabyan Parkway and Randall Road to include a full-service grocery store.

Walmart will be expanded into a superstore.

The 35,911-square-foot addition will bring the store’s size to 189,343 square feet.
