Garage fire causes $19,000 damage in Batavia

BATAVIA – A Thursday morning fire caused $19,000 damage to a structure on Washington Avenue in Batavia, but there were no injuries, and damage was limited to a garage.

Firefighters arrived on the scene of the fire at 11:28 a.m., responding to a report of a fire in the rear of the structure, according to a news release issued by the Batavia Fire Department. Firefighters were able to advance a hose line to the rear of the structure "to extinguish a lower-level garage that was well-involved," the release said.

The fire caused $6,000 damage to the structure, $5,000 damage to the contents and $8,000 to a vehicle, the release stated.
