Face Time with Karen Clarke

Elmhurst resident Karen Clarke, 51, was at the St. Charles Chicago Pet Show when she answered 10 questions for the Kane County Chronicle’s Brenda Schory.

Where did you grow up? Brookfield, Countryside and Chicago

Pets? I have two dogs of my own. Lila is a terrier-mix rescued, and Blue is a blue pit bull, also a rescue. And I foster Breezy, a shepherd-hound mix for Magnificent Mutts.

Who would play you in the movie of your life? Myself

First job? I did baby-sitting.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to do something with animals. I’ve been with Magnificent Mutts since 2005. More information is online at

A book or movie you’d recommend? “Cold Mountain” by Charles Frazier and the movie is “Cloud Atlas.”

Favorite charity? Magnificent Mutts. I also volunteer for DuPage County Animal Control and National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Hobbies? Taking care of animals, gardening, reading

Favorite local restaurant? The Filling Station Pub and Grill in St. Charles

What is an interesting factoid about yourself? I spent 16 years in the Air National Guard, and I have fostered more than 400 animals – mostly dogs – in the past eight years.
