Batavia McDonald’s to reopen Monday

BATAVIA – About three months after it was demolished, the McDonald’s restaurant in the city’s downtown will again serve Big Macs, Quarter Pounders and other fast-food favorites.

Friday, a representative of local McDonald’s franchisee Yanni Management, which operates nine McDonald’s restaurants around the Tri-Cities, confirmed its Batavia location will reopen Monday.

“We’re going through all the final touch-ups right now,” said Brandon Ross, area supervisor for Yanni. “And we are opening Monday at 6 a.m.”

Yanni Management had torn down the restaurant building in the 100 block of West Wilson Street in September to allow the company to construct a modern McDonald’s restaurant in place of the structure that had stood at the location since 1978.

The new restaurant will include side-by-side drive-thru lanes outside and an interior ordering system that includes digital menu boards and a two-phase, numbered order process. Seating areas will be outfitted with televisions, Ross said.

“This is so much nicer than what we had before,” Ross said.

Ross noted three months without customers going to a location in the fast-food business is “a really long time.”

The restaurant will be running various promotions throughout December, kicking off with a week of daily specials beginning with free small coffee Monday and capping off with $1 six-piece Chicken McNuggets on Friday and $2 Happy Meals on Saturday and Sunday.

Ronald McDonald will make appearances at various times, Ross said.

About 65 employees have been hired to staff the Batavia restaurant, Ross said.

With its Batavia location to reopen, Yanni Management is slated to soon turn its attention to its restaurant on West Main Street in St. Charles, which it also intends to demolish and rebuild using McDonald’s modern template, according to plans submitted in November to St. Charles City Hall.
