Batavia senior Mickey Watson was presented with a check for $500 for Batavia High School on Thursday night in recognition of being voted the St. Charles Toyota-Kane County Chronicle Athlete of the Month for October.
Watson was a standout senior linebacker for the Batavia football team, leading the Bulldogs with 60 solo tackles and 25 assists.
Watson also contributed seven tackles for a loss, three sacks, eight hurries and one pass defended.
Bulldogs football coach Dennis Piron called Watson “our defensive team leader and signal caller. He was extremely physical, durable and tough. We had to replace the 2011 UEC Defensive Player of the Year, and he did an incredible job all year long.”
Watson helped lead Batavia to a second straight undefeated regular season and UEC River championship.
Also a successful wrestler for the Bulldogs, Watson was presented the award by Michael Alf of St. Charles Toyota at Thursday’s Batavia-Geneva wrestling meet in Batavia.
Voting for the Athlete of the Month contest takes place each month at KCChronicle.com and stcharlestoyota.net.
