Kaneland Connection: Elburn honors state champion

Published: Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012 5:30 a.m. CDT

Kaneland’s cross country state champion now has the key to the village of Elburn.

Village President Dave Anderson presented Kaneland sophomore Victoria Clinton with the honor at Monday’s Village Board meeting.

Anderson said the gesture was made to congratulate Clinton on her achievement “and in case you ever get locked out of the village.”

Anderson said he was impressed with “the patience, the endurance, the ability and the want” that she exhibited.

Meet me at Papa G’s

I am planning the first of a series of “office hours” events at noon Dec. 12 at Papa G’s at 250 S. Main St. in Elburn. The idea is to invite community members in the Kaneland area to share story ideas and provide feedback.

Let me know if you’re interested in attending by emailing or calling 630-845-5385. Or feel free to just show up.

More Papa G’s news

Papa G’s also is announcing an event, “Pape G’s Gives Back,” from 4 to 9 p.m. Dec. 17. A $20 dinner, which includes pork chops, Papa G’s famous Greek chicken, mashed potatoes and vegetables, served banquet style, will be available, with proceeds to benefit relief efforts for the victims of Superstorm Sandy.

Bell-ringing in Elburn

I’m excited to have the opportunity to be a bell-ringer for The Salvation Army on Dec. 21 and 22 in front of Ream’s Elburn Market at 128 N. Main St. in Elburn. I’m scheduled to be out from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 21 and 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 22.

Others who want to be bell-ringers can call 630-365-2880.

Cookie walk success

The Kaneville United Methodist Church Women’s Cookie Walk raised about $2,300 last weekend. Sandy Gould, one of the organizers for the event, said it was a huge success, with a line forming at 8 a.m. for the 9 a.m. event.

“We were thrilled,” Gould said.
