Kaneland wrestler Stephen Gust had to stay home from school after being slowed by illness early this week, but his opponents Saturday weren’t fortunate enough to get a reprieve. Gust dominated opposition from Plano and Lemont at a triangular meet that the Knights split. The wins were part of a hot start to the season for the 113-pounder, who is the St. Charles Bank & Trust-Kane County Chronicle Athlete of the Week. Gust touched base with Chronicle sports editor Jay Schwab about his successful weekend. The following is an edited transcript:

What’s your take on how the first few weeks have gone?
It’s going good. I don’t know, 5-1 is a decent start to the season. I’m not happy about the loss.
