ST. CHARLES – The city of St. Charles will mark the opening of the roadway portion of Red Gate Bridge with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Dec. 15.
The bridge extends Red Gate Road across the Fox River to Route 25, providing St. Charles with its northernmost river crossing.
Mayor Don DeWitte said in a written statement that the bridge’s opening has been a long time coming.
“The Red Gate Bridge will greatly improve transportation for the residents of St. Charles, and our township neighbors in the surrounding area,” he said. “I am pleased and proud to invite our residents to join us to witness this milestone event for the city of St. Charles.”
The event will begin at 10 a.m. with brief remarks at the St. Charles North High School commons, 225 Red Gate Road. The ribbon-cutting is set for 11 a.m. on the bridge.
Those planning to attend are asked to call 630-762-7097 or email RedGateBridge@stcharlesil.gov.
Work continues on the pedestrian and bicycle pathway that will connect existing trails on either side of the river. It is scheduled to open next spring and will mark the completion of the bridge project.
