St. Charles man charged with 
aggravated battery of 80-year-old

BATAVIA – A 48-year-old St. Charles man was being held in the Kane County Jail Friday afternoon on $75,000 bond after being charged with slapping an 80-year-old Batavia woman in the face and threatening her with a knife Sunday.

John A. Cunningham, whose last known address is the 1600 block of Covington Court, St. Charles, has been charged with armed violence and aggravated battery to a victim older than 60, both felonies, along with misdemeanor charges of domestic battery and interfering with domestic violence. His next court date is set for Wednesday.

According to court records, Cunningham was armed with a carpenter knife when he slapped the 80-year-old victim in the face. In addition, he knocked a phone out of the woman’s hand as she was attempting to call 911 for police assistance, records state.
