More details emerge in fatal crash near Sugar Grove

SUGAR GROVE – A 54-year-old Aurora man who died Monday night after he was struck by a pickup truck while walking on Jericho Road near Sugar Grove was himself involved in a crash earlier that night.

Dean Craig died in the incident, which took place at 7:40 p.m. between the intersection of Dugan and Ashe roads in Sugar Grove Township, according to a news release issued by the Kane County Sheriff's Department.

According to the report, Craig was walking east on Jericho Road when he was hit by a Toyota Tundra driven by Joseph Morgan, 25, of Plano. The roadway where the incident took place is a country road with no lighting, and a 55 mph speed limit, according to the report.

Craig was walking in the area after he was involved in an earlier traffic crash at about 6 p.m., the Sheriff's Department said. In that crash, Craig had told Sheriff's Department officials that he was traveling north on Dugan Road just south of Granart Road, and made a left turn into a driveway of a residence to turn around.

As he attempted to make that turn, he turned in front of a vehicle that was traveling south on Dugan Road. In that crash, both vehicles had to be towed because of the damage, but there were no injuries, the Sheriff's Department said.
