NORTH AURORA – North Aurora police continue to investigate the armed robbery Monday morning of a female 7-Eleven employee outside of the 7-Eleven store at 2 S. Lincolnway.
North Aurora Deputy Chief Scott Buziecki said he could not share information on whether the department had any leads or witnesses.
"It's too early in the investigation for me to comment on any of that," he said.
The department was dispatched to the store at 9:57 a.m. for a report of an armed robbery that just occurred.
Officers learned that at about 9:40 a.m. a female store employee was robbed outside of the store as she was transporting store money to the bank. According to police, the suspect was waiting out of sight on the south side of the building, knocked the employee to the ground, displayed the barrel of a gun, and demanded money.
The female complied with the suspect’s demand, and the suspect fled with an undetermined amount of money. He was last seen southbound through the alley between Route 31 and Adams Street, police said. Officers completed an area search but could not find the suspect.
The suspect was described as a light-skinned male, appearing to be Hispanic, between 5 feet, 8 inches, and 6 feet, 2 inches tall, and heavy set. He was wearing a black quilted puffy coat, black pants, black work boots, and a black knit beanie hat, and was armed with what appeared to be a black semi-auto handgun, police said.
North Aurora police stressed that the offender targeted the store, not a random customer.
"The North Aurora Police Department does not believe that customers are at risk of a random attack," Buziecki said.
Police are interested in speaking with anyone who may have seen the suspect before the robbery or who may have seen the suspect fleeing the scene.
