Aurora Christian football coach and Kaneland graduate Don Beebe will conduct a book signing from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Aurora Christian auditorium for his new book, "Six Rings from Nowhere."
The book reveals Beebe's life journey from a construction worker in his early 20s to an underdog NFL receiver who played in six Super Bowls. His Aurora Christian football teams have won back-to-back state championships.
The book includes contributions from former NFL quarterbacks Brett Favre and Jim Kelly, both former teammates of Beebe.
"I never perceived myself as a book guy," Beebe said. "Books are for people like Brett Favre and Jim Kelly. But I look at my life, and I'm just a common man and I should have never played in the NFL. It was certainly a calling in my life to play at that level. I think it's a book that can relate to any person today that has a dream to do something miraculous and big, and I always encourage kids to think big. Don't let anybody tell you you can't do something."
It will be the first signing in Illinois for the book, which was co-written by Denise Crosby. The book, which took about four years to complete, Beebe said, was released last week.
"I'm not in this to make money," Beebe said. "I'm in it to share a great story. That's really all I'm in this for, and one day if it gives me a platform to speak at a function or a banquet or church or whatever ... it's just an uplifting and encouraging story."
