An employee from Lovett's 24 Hour Towing brushes debris off of Route 38 after an accident. The black car on the right hit the semi-truck's trailer, causing the rear axle to detach.

MAPLE PARK – A portion of Route 38 was closed Tuesday morning as police and tow trucks removed a semi-trailer from the side of the road.

A black sedan was passing another vehicle while traveling east on Route 38 west of County Line Road about 10 a.m. Tuesday when it struck a semi-tractor. The truck was rounding the corner, and the sedan struck the trailer, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office.

Sgt. Ryan Braden said both drivers refused medical attention. The driver of the semi-tractor was still at the scene, standing, while Braden noted the ambulance containing the sedan driver drove away without its sirens on.

The sedan collided with the truck's trailer, pushing off the trailer's rear axle. As of 11 a.m. Tuesday, towers were working to remove the smashed sedan, the rear axle, and the semi-truck, whose trailer partly rested on the side of the road.

Braden said Route 38 between Hinckley Road and County Line Road will remain closed until the vehicles are removed.

"It's always safe to keep it closed when they're working on it," Braden said.

It is unknown whether the sedan was trying to pass the other vehicle in a no-passing zone. Braden said they are still determining whether citations will be issued.
