OSWEGO – Four Batavia girls basketball players scored in double figures in the team’s 70-38 victory against Minooka at the Oswego Invitational on Monday.

The 8-3 Bulldogs closed the game on a 48-18 run. Batavia led, 22-20, just before halftime.

“We were very balanced and disciplined, and it added up to a win,” Batavia coach Kevin Jensen said.

Liza Fruendt led the Bulldogs with 17 points. Erin Bayram (16), Miranda Grizaffi (14) and Hannah Frazier (11) were next. Batavia won Saturday’s tournament opener against Glenbard East by 30 points. Neuqua Valley awaits the team Wednesday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Mooseheart 64, Hiawatha 28: At Kirkland, hours after the IHSA Board of Directors ruled the South Sudanese trio of Akim Nyang, Makur Puou and Mangisto Deng eligible, the Mooseheart boys basketball team scored an easy victory at Hiawatha.

Red Ramblers coach Ron Ahrens said the players, who were present at an afternoon hearing at IHSA headquarters in Bloomington, arrived on time for the game.

“We’re extremely happy and our kids are happy,” said Ahrens, whose team improved to 4-4. “They get to continue their education, stay with their teammates – who are brothers to them – and be part of a team at Mooseheart.”

GIRLS BOWLING

Kaneland girls fall: At DeKalb, Kaneland lost a non-conference girls bowling dual to IMSA, 2,711-2,560 at Mardi Gras Lanes.

Christie Crews notched the Knights’ top series with a 477, while Angela Charhut (200) registered the team’s top game.
