Owner: Fantastico going strong after reopening

BATAVIA – Fantastico restaurant is being welcomed back to downtown Batavia after it was closed for more than a year.

Owner Sam Abdelnour said he has seen steady business since he reopened his restaurant at 227 W. Wilson St. on Nov. 23.

“We have been very busy,” he said. “It’s been going very strong.”

After 14 years in business, Abdelnour said he closed the restaurant in July 2011 because he needed to take a break. The restaurant previously had been on North River Street until the move to its Wilson Street location in 2006.

The restaurant’s emphasis will continue to be Italian and Mediterranean food, Abdelnour said. He has added a few new items, such as Italian sausage and antipasto bruschetta.

“Everything is homemade from scratch,” he said.

Fantastico will be open for dinner seven days a week, Abdelnour said. Dining, carry-out and catering will be available.

Abdelnour said he has been receiving well-wishes from the community since announcing that he planned to reopen. He said the restaurant’s name reflects what people say when they taste one of his dishes – “Fantastico.”

The restaurant specializes in fair prices, large portions and a cozy atmosphere, he said.

Fantastico is open from 4 to 10 p.m. Mondays through Sundays.
