Kaneland superintendent: Safety of students and staff is 'our highest priority'

The following is an email sent to families with students attending Kaneland School District schools from Superintendent Jeff Schuler:

Dear Kaneland Families,

The horrific events that occurred last Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School have deeply troubled all of us as students, parents, teachers, administrators, community members, and as human beings. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Newtown, CT community and all impacted by the tragedy.

As we welcome our students back to school this morning, I wanted to remind our parents and students of a couple of things. Please know that counseling staff are available for students who may need to talk about what happened last week, or any other situation that may be troubling them at this time. The administrative team also wants to reassure you that detailed plans are in place at all schools to address crisis situations, if and when they arise. The Administration has worked closely with local authorities in each of our communities in the development and review of our safety procedures. The Board of Education and the Administration of Kaneland School District take the safety of the students and the staff as our highest priority and certainly will continue to do so in the days and week ahead.

Even with all of that said, when we watch the details of a tragedy unfold like we did on Friday, it impacts all of us. We wish you a peaceful time with your families, friends, and loved ones over the Holiday Season. If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the building administration or myself.

Sincerely,

Jeff Schuler

Superintendent of Schools

What do you think of people using fireworks near their homes?

That shouldn't be tolerated. It's dangerous.
I'd never do it, but I'll watch others.
It's OK so long as the fireworks are legal.
It's not a problem. It's just a way to celebrate.
I have no opinion.
