GENEVA – According to Bloomberg's Businessweek magazine, Geneva is the best place to raise kids in Illinois.

The city landed on the seventh-annual list of "America's Best Places to Raise Kids 2013," which was published Monday.

The magazine weighed public school performance and safety most heavily, but also took the local job market, median income and county-level employment into consideration. More than 3,200 cities with populations between 5,000 and 50,000 people were evaluated.

The magazine tapped data from GreatSchools.org, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Cities with a median family income exceeding $115,866 were excluded from the list.

Geneva came out on top for Illinois.

"This suburb on the outskirts of Chicagoland has many charms. The Fox River Trail allows kids and parents to bike along the waterfront, and the Kane County Cougars, affiliated with the Cubs, play minor league ball at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. Geneva also boasts well-maintained homes with diverse architectural styles, built by early settlers from New England," according to Businessweek.

“Geneva is a wonderful place to live, and we are very pleased that Geneva has received this much-deserved recognition,” said Kent Mutchler, superintendent of Geneva School District 304, in a news release. “We are fortunate to have such strong intergovernmental partnerships in Geneva, and this collaborative effort reflects very well on all those who live and work here.”
