District 303: Threat at Thompson Middle School not credible

St. Charles School District 303 officials sent out an email regarding a threat, which was determined not to be credible, at Thompson Middle School.

The email, signed by Superintendent Donald Schlomann, thanked parents and students for bringing the matter to their attention.

"It has been determined no credible threat exists," Schlomann wrote.

The email reads:

"To District 303 Parents and Staff Members –

"You may be aware of rumors being passed around in the middle and high schools claiming that threats have been made against Thompson Middle School and St. Charles East High School.  I want to thank the parents and students who brought these matters to our attention and the staff members who learned of this while monitoring social media.

"Here is what we know and the actions we are taking:

"The rumor at Thompson Middle School was started by a student who no longer attends the school.  District 303 and the police are aware of the source of this rumor and have determined the threat is not credible.

The rumor at St. Charles East H.S. is based on the tangled weaving of events that arrive at a conclusion that has been investigated by District 303 and the police. It has been determined no credible threat exists.

"I fully understand that the events of the past week have everyone on edge. I also understand, having been in the education business for a long time, sometimes kids want out of school when the holidays approach. Any rumor which might lead to an unexpected day off, ranging from severe weather to unsubstantiated threats will spread quickly.

"Please note we take all threats seriously.  Caution your child against initiating or spreading rumors, but also let them know that if they hear something that is threatening- tell an adult.  Any one disrupting the normal operations of our schools may face disciplinary or legal action.
