Garage fire in St. Charles causes $35,000 in damage

ST. CHARLES – An early-morning garage fire Friday on the 200 block of South Sixth Street in St. Charles caused $35,000 in damage, according to a news release issued by the St. Charles Fire Department.

Firefighters said the blaze, at 202 S. Sixth St., was discovered nearly simultaneously at 5:16 a.m. by a neighbor and a newspaper delivery person. Both called 911. Firefighters arrived at 5:20 a.m. and found a two-car garage, "well involved in fire." Two vehicles in the driveway also were affected, the release said.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in 30 minutes. An investigation into the cause of the fire continues. There were no injuries.
