Prep roundup: East girls basketball now 5-0 in UEC River

ELGIN – The St. Charles East girls basketball team remained unbeaten in the Upstate Eight Conference River Division with Thursday’s 51-32 victory at Elgin.

Paige Jordan paced the Saints (7-6, 5-0 UEC River) with 12 points. Carly Pottle was next with 11 points in East’s first action since a home loss to Metea Valley in a Dec. 14 conference crossover.

“We haven’t played in about a week, so we were a little rusty, but everybody got to play, and that’s good,” Saints coach Lori Drumtra said. “The kids were excited, and it was a nice game.”

East is scheduled to begin play in Wheaton North’s Bill Neibch Falcon Classic against Lyons Township on Wednesday.

“We’re looking forward to getting ready for the tournament after Christmas,” Drumtra said.

Naperville North/Benet Holiday Classic – Wheaton Warrenville South 58, Geneva 47: At Lisle, Wheaton Warrenville South used a 20-6, third-quarter run to defeat Geneva in a bracket play semifinal.

“Third quarter killed us,” said Vikings coach Sarah Meadows, whose team won the final quarter, 16-13. “That’s the game right there.”

Abby Novak sparked 9-7 Geneva with 16 points. Morgan Seberger and Kelly Gordon added eight apiece. The Vikings are set to conclude tournament play against co-host Benet tonight.

“They run a similar offense as in the past, the wheel offense, they have kids who work hard,” Meadows said. “It’ll be another tough one for us [today].”

BOYS BASKETBALL
