KCChronicle.com/preps Athlete of the Week: St. Charles North senior boys swimmer David Chokran
Why he was selected: Chokran won an invidual crown in the 100-yard breastroke and was part of North’s victorious 200 medley relay during Friday’s Upstate Eight Conference dual victory at St. Charles East. With the rest of his teammates, the St. Charles Bank & Trust-Kane County Chronicle Athlete of the Week will be off from meet competition until early January. Sports reporter Kevin Druley caught up with Chokran about the East meet and his season so far. The following is an edited transcript:
What did you think about how everything went for the team at East?
I think the team did really good. We started off swimming really well with the medley, obviously. We had a pretty good time [1:41.62]. We mixed it up a little bit. … Everyone showed up, they swam what they had to do and we won the meet.
The new year can be a benchmark for the season, so how do you feel about the progress to this point?
We’re definitely doing really good. We’re getting lots of yardage in every day. We don’t leave practices without doing at lead [8,000 yards] in the afternoon and usually 4,000 in the morning. We’re averaging at least 10,000 a day, and knowing that, we’ve just got money in the bank.
