The Andrew Dice Clay comedy special taped in August at the Arcada Theatre in St. Charles is set to air on New Year’s Eve on Showtime.
The special, titled “Andrew Dice Clay: Indestructible,” was taped Aug. 25 at the Arcada Theatre and will air at 9 p.m. Monday. It will be his first special in 17 years.
During an interview with the Kane County Chronicle earlier this year, Clay said he wanted to do “what I would call the first and most exciting rock ‘n’ roll type of comedy special, and really just bang the country over the head again.
“I look at this as I want to do one more special, and I want to do it in a place that means something to me, that I have a history with, and Chicago’s that place. I’m not quitting standup in any way, because I will tour very big after the special airs on New Year’s Eve.”
Clay also talked about his role in an upcoming Woody Allen movie.
“That’s the funny thing, I wasn’t even aiming toward film again,” Clay said. “I was all about the comedy, and then I get a call from my manager that Woody Allen wanted to meet with me and the next thing you know, I’m on the set with Cate Blanchett and Alec Baldwin, and I’m just thrilled to be doing it.”
Clay said he is in the second phase of his career.
“I knew I was great at entertaining people, and I knew my kind of comedy could really provoke emotion out of audiences,” Clay said. “There’s just crazy things going on in the world now. And as a comic, it’s my job to comedically lay it out for them, and that’s why they applaud it and laugh at it.”
